The kids couldn't wait to see the ocean so we stopped at the first free beach. It was windy and cloudy all day which made it cold. We also stopped at Pigeon Point Lighthouse.
The Coastanoa lodge and associated grounds were really nice. We elected to stay in a canvas walled tent cabin. The bathrooms and showers were communal (the wooden building in the background of the next pic). It had a twin bed and a full size bed. The plan was that Eric and Mary would share the twin bed and Jane and Ben would share the full. No heat in the tent, but there were electric lights and electric blankets. Maybe you could call it "glamping." It was very windy and you could always hear the wind blowing on the tent, but very comfortable inside.
That night Mary threw up in the middle of the night in our tent. Eric and I cleaned her up as well as we could, Eric took soiled sheets and towels to the front desk of the lodge and got some new ones, and for the rest of the night Mary slept in her own bed while the three of us shared the full size bed. This sickness was over 24 hours after she was sick at the fair (acting normal in between), so Eric and I were scratching our heads about what her illness was.
They stopped the train at the top of the mountain so that you could climb around. Ben was a very hesitant poser for the camera. He kept thinking a bear or some other danger would be behind the tree and he was worried if he was not right next to me.
Running away from danger lurking behind the tree.
At the state park. Huge tree. Mary in stroller, Ben, and Eric.
Now on to Monterey! Mary is keeping her crackers and gatorade down, hooray!

What kind of a vacation would it be without a train ride? Ben sure looks happy in the train pics.
So glad Mary's funk came and went. Looks like a great vacation all in all.
That pic of Jane and Mary and background is so perfect.
