Future Readers

We are trying to encourage these two to be good readers. Ben LOVES books. He likes picture books, fairy tales, a large Thomas the Train book, and recently we finished Stuart Little and are in the middle of Charlotte's Web. It is so cool to be reading chapter books with him, although he is a little disappointed when there are very few pictures in a chapter. Mary likes books, but we have learned that we need to remember that she is younger and is not always interested in the same books as her brother. Sometimes they can be read to together, but often they need their separate books in order for her to keep her interest going. This month she "read" her first book to us, I love my new toy, by Mo Willems. We read it so many times that both kids memorized it. She especially likes the different Mo Willems books, the Goldilocks story (especially when we insert Mary instead of Goldilocks into the name), Goodnight Moon, a couple different bug and animal books we have, etc. We usually go to the library once every two weeks or so and pick out new books as well as a kids cd or a couple kids dvds. Library trips are usually fun for us.
