On Sunday Ben tripped in the backyard and landed face first on the stone pavers that surround the garden. His front tooth took a lot of the impact and earned him a first class tour of the emergency room in the new children's hospital. The incident although messy, traumatized us more than it did him. Luckily no stitches were needed. His tooth did not break off but it jammed back up into the gum line. Yikes.
The next day we took him to a dentist for a consultation and surprisingly he said let's wait 3 months. He said often the tooth will reemerge in these situations. There are other options but he suggests that we address it conservatively.
Behold, the next starting forward for the Detroit Red Wings.

His mouth / teeth are his achilles heel. He fell down once before and knocked one tooth a little. He fell Sunday and knocked this one badly. Then yesterday at bedtime he was tired and burying his face in my shoulder and knocked his mouth on my collarbone and his still healing gums bled from hitting my bony shoulder. Do you think they make mouthguards for 1 year olds? Maybe a helmet. hockey mask? welder's mask?
I like the dentist's advice.
Let him learn early that the girls dig the battle wounds. Whether it be from a fight with a paver or a tussle with a stair tread, all the girls will want to hear about it on the swings. If it needs dental work, I'd strongly recommend getting him a gold replacement. Bling plus a scar story never go wrong, especially when combined with a platinum tippy cup.
